IOSH Managing Safely in the World of Work (Open Distance Learning)

IOSHWe are accredited by IOSH to deliver this programme. This course covers the effective management of Health and Safety at work. The IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) Managing Safely programme is an integral part of this course.

‘IOSH Managing Safely in the World of Work’ aims to teach supervisors and managers how to control hazards and reduce risks in the workplace as part of an effective Health and Safety management system.

Many find the flexibility of this open distance learning course attractive. We agree a completion programme to suit your work, and other, commitments. However, you should comfortably complete the course within 4 months.

The course induction comprises a brief face to face meeting. This is followed by your completion of the seven main sections of the programme by open distance learning:

  • Section 1: Effective management of Health and Safety
  • Section 2: Legal matters
  • Section 3: Dealing with Risks
  • Section 4: Workplace hazards
  • Section 5: Handling incidents
  • Section 6: Monitoring systems and performance
  • Section 7: Safety Management System

Your assigned tutor will provide feedback on each of these, to help build your knowledge. Assignments and feedback are communicated by conventional mail.

At the end of the programme you will need to complete a final assessment. This comprises two parts:

  1. A short test of the knowledge you have gained through this course.
  2. A practical assessment that includes a risk assessment of your place of work
