ISOH managing safely news: Roofer safety breaches results in fine

Failure to take the correct safety measures while repairing a roof has resulted in a company being issued with a fine.
Although health and safety precautions are taught on IOSH managing safely courses, Charles Molloy from St Helen's-based Molloy Building Contractors was fined after it was found the company was not working with safe practices in place.
Mr Molloy was working on the roof of a pub himself, along with another man, when they were spotted without any scaffolding in place, or wearing harnesses.
St Helen's Magistrates' Court fined the 64-year-old £1,500 plus costs for failing to take measures to prevent workers from falling, with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Sandra Tomlinson stating that after ignoring warnings to improve the safety standards, the body had no choice but to prosecute.
The HSE is currently running the Shattered Lives campaign in a bid to raise awareness of the risks posed by working at height.
