A steeplejack has been fined for working in a way that endangered not only himself, but two people that he employed.
NEBOSH courses may receive enquiries from businesses following the news that Dean Paul Shaw, who traded under the name of Streamline Guttering and Cladding in Leicestershire, was fined for not taking proper precautions at work.
Mr Shaw was working on the roof of a seven-metre high property, which was accessed by a mobile tower at the front of the structure, with two other men.
However, they were also working at the back of the building where no scaffolding has been erected, which resulted in the company being fined £4,950 plus costs by Loughborough Magistrates' Court.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Mhairi Lockwood said that there was nothing in place to stop the men should they fall and a sharp palisade fence could have caused "horrific injuries".
To highlight the risks faced through falls, trips and slips in the workplace, the HSE has launched the Shattered Lives campaign, with the body offering free 'danger' display cards to businesses.
