Who will benefit from this course?

‘IOSH Managing Safely in the World of Work’ aims to teach supervisors and managers how to control hazards and reduce risks in the workplace as part of an effective Health and Safety management system. However, for more breadth and depth of coverage owners are advised strongly to take the NVQ3, NEBOSH or higher programmes.

When and where will courses be held?

This course can start at a time to suit you. If necessary, students can be inducted individually. The tutor usually inducts you at your workplace and conduct the final assessment the latter for local students. Support for the course is provided by e- mail, telephone, and/or conventional mail.

Many find the flexibility of this open distance learning course attractive. We agree a completion programme to suit your work and other commitments. However, you should comfortably complete the course within 3 months.

Course details

The course induction, which is a short face-to-face meeting, is followed by your completion of the seven main sections of the programme.

·        Section 1: Effective management of Health and Safety

·        Section 2: Legal matters

·        Section 3: Dealing with Risks

·        Section 4: Workplace hazards

·        Section 5: Handling incidents

·        Section 6: Monitoring systems and performance

·        Section 7: Safety Management Systems

Your assigned tutor will provide feedback on each of these, to help build your knowledge.

At the end of the programme you will need to complete a final assessment. This comprises two parts;

1.    A short test of the knowledge you have gained through this course.

2.    A practical assessment that includes a risk assessment of your place of work.
