NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Summary course information

We deliver this 12-day course either as 3 blocks of 4 days, or as single days over 12 weeks. In addition we offer a free revision day for each course group. Students are provided with a complimentary set of NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate course notes and supporting material.

 Who will benefit from this course?

 This course is suitable for competent persons and non-specialists that assist organisations with hazards and risks that are less complex than that encountered by specialists following a Level 4 NVQ. Some who have this qualification have successful careers in teaching basic and intermediate health and safety programmes. To entrol on this course previous health and safety training is not essential, but would be useful.

These are usually run as open-courses, although we would consider pricing for small in-company groups.  The next course venue will be advised soon.

 Course details

This programme comprises three modular units: NGC1, NGC2 and NGC3. A Unit certificate is issued on passing each of the latter, and the complete NEBOSH National General Certificate is awarded on passing all 3 Units within the time frame specified by NEBOSH.

NGC1 Management of Health & Safety

• Health & safety foundations
• Policy
• Organising for health & safety
• Promoting a positive health & safety culture
• Risk assessment
• Principles of control
• Monitoring review and audit
• Incident and accident investigation, recording and reporting

NGC2 Controlling Workplace Hazards

• Movement of people -hazards and control
• Manual and mechanical handling, hazards and control
• Work equipment hazards and control
• Electrical hazards and control
• Fire hazards and control
• Chemical and biological health, hazards and control
• Physical and psychological health, hazards and control
• Construction activities, hazards and control

NGC3 – The Practical Examination

This usually takes place on the learners work premises and involves conducting a hazard inspection, followed by writing up a management report on the findings.
